The Supreme Court has ruled in Noel Canning v. NLRB, No. 12-1115, and found that President Obama had indeed violated the constitution in his recess appointment. The decision was unanimous.
The decision is an important victory for the separation of powers. It will also further magnify the growing controversy over President Obama’s unilateral actions in various areas — part of his pledge to circumvention Congress to get things done. I recently testified (here and here and here) and wrote a column on President Obama’s increasing circumvention of Congress in negating or suspending U.S. laws. Obama has repeatedly suspended provisions of the health care law and made unilateral changes that were previously rejected by Congress. He has also moved hundreds of millions from one part of the Act to other parts without congressional approval. Now, his administration is reportedly changing key provisions of the ACA to potentially make billions of dollars available to the insurance industry in a move that was never debated, let alone approved, by the legislative branch.
Marking a notable shift in Palestinian public opinion, 60 percent of the population surveyed in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (55% and 68%, respectively) said that the five-year goal “should be to work toward reclaiming all of historic Palestine, from the river to the sea,” according to the poll, a position meaning the elimination of Israel.
The Arab Raam-Taal party in the Knesset held a meeting on Monday with all its members, to discuss issues related to “Palestine’s Interior” (the state of Israel) and “the occupied state of Palestine” (Judea, Samaria and Gaza).
At the conclusion of the meeting, an announcement summarizing the contents was distributed in Arabic to the media, and included several important points.
The first statement declared that Jews have no right to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque, namely the Temple Mount – the holiest site in Judaism.
“The blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is the holy property of the Muslims only,” wrote the Arab MKs, who added that they oppose propositions in the Knesset to divide the site between Jews and Muslims by setting areas and times for each group’s usage.
It is going from bad to worse for the Iraqi government, whose armed forces according to at least one unconfirmed media report, have suffered major losses.
Perhaps confirming this, is the report from Reuters that overnight ISIS continued it southern creep toward Baghdad, and has now reached a town that is just an hour from Baghdad which is home to four natural gas fields on Thursday, “another gain by Sunni insurgents who have swiftly taken large areas to the north and west of the Iraqi capital.”
But wait, didn’t Obama do just this a year ago only to find that the arms were going into the hands of Al Qaeda extremists – essentially the same ones the US will be waging war against any minute in Iraq? Well yes. But this time Obama has a fail safe plan.
U.S. FUNDS FOR MODERATE SYRIAN REBELS REQUESTED FROM CONGRESS
Oh, it’s just the “moderate” terrorists Obama will be arming. Not the more radical types. But how Obama will make the distinction? Well, that’s what polling is all about. To wit: “Excuse me, would you describe yourself as a moderate or extreme al-Qaeda jihadist. Answering affirmatively to the former assures you your own US-made Humvee and a few thousand bullets to shoot at US soldiers across the border in Iraq.”
While we wish we were joking, this sadly describes the current all too real state of US diplomacy in the middle east.
An ancient temple that featured in the film The Exorcist has fallen into the hands of jihadists who have taken over northern Iraq.
The pre-Christian worship complex at Hatra, a vast network of 70-metre sun-god temples that is a UNESCO world heritage site, features in the opening sequence of the 1973 horror classic.
It now lies in the territory claimed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS), prompting fears that its stone statues could be destroyed as idolatrous images by the terrorists.
Syrian warplanes bombed Sunni militants’ positions inside Iraq, military officials confirmed Wednesday, deepening the concerns that the extremist insurgency that spans the two neighboring countries could morph into an even wider regional conflict. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry warned against the threat and said other nations should stay out.
Meanwhile, a new insurgent artillery offensive against Christian villages in the north of Iraq sent thousands of Christians fleeing from their homes, seeking sanctuary in Kurdish-controlled territory, Associated Press reporters who witnessed the scene said..
Israel told the United States on Thursday Kurdish independence in northern Iraq was a “foregone conclusion” and Israeli experts predicted the Jewish state would be quick to recognise a Kurdish state, should it emerge.
Israel has maintained discreet military, intelligence and business ties with the Kurds since the 1960s, seeing in the minority ethnic group a buffer against shared Arab adversaries.
As experts continue to search for feasible ways to enter the stricken Fukushima nuclear facility in Japan without causing further damage or exposing workers to deadly levels of radiation, the mainstream media is finally admitting that the plant’s reactor cores did, indeed, experience meltdowns.
After years of denial and coverup, it is now being openly but quietly admitted that the three damaged reactors cores are most likely completely destroyed. But because of the level of damage involved, workers still have no idea just how bad things really are, and it could be months or even years before anyone has any solid answers.
“Inside the complex, there are three wrecked reactor cores, twisted masses of hundreds of tons of highly radioactive uranium, plutonium, cesium and strontium,” wrote Matthew L. Wald for The New York Times (NYT). “Nobody really knows [the true level of damage], because nobody has yet examined many of the most important parts of the wreckage.”
These are powerful admissions that cast the situation at Fukushima as much more dire than we’ve all been led to believe.
Top scientists have warned that if another major earthquake hits Fukushima, which is almost inevitable, it would mean “bye bye Japan” and the complete evacuation of the west coast of North America.
Critical problems still continue to plague the Fukushima site over three years after the quake-tsunami disaster which caused a nuclear meltdown, with Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) officials continually caught downplaying the severity of the situation.
Talk in the Oregon coast town of Bandon often turns to the approaching plume of sea-borne radiation from Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant.
“We’ve been worried about it and worried about it,” said Zac Adams, owner of Bandon Designs construction company. “We’re really concerned about it affecting the fisheries, the wildlife, the tourism, and most importantly our health.”
In March 2011, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Japan, triggering a tsunami and knocking out power to cooling pumps at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant complex, causing meltdowns at three reactors.
Massive amounts of contaminated water were released to the sea and continue to build up at the plant.
At least in the Lichtenstein murder the killer was quickly caught. This time it will be far more complicated, especially since it appears to have been much more than a merely case of angry clients. Luckily, for now one can dismiss these “terminal” events as they are both isolated and taking place in obscure European locales. That too may soon change, especially if the global central bankers do all they can to push wealth disparity between the haves and have nots to fresh record highs.
In the meantime, unfortunately, the “boy who overcame adversity to climb a mountain in the 1970 Albanian film The Courageous” is now dead.
It was about two months ago when in a shocking development in the otherwise sleepy tax-evasion haven of Lichtenstein, the CEO of local Bank Frick, was murdered in the underground garage of the bank by a disgruntled former client. As readers may recall, the tragic event happened at a time when there was a spike in banker suicides, prompting us to wonder if “with the first open bank CEO murder, one wonders if there will be a change in the pattern.” Two months later it appears as if the vector of death is indeed changing when, as Reuters reported, overnight the head of the fourth largest bank in Albania, Credins, was murdered, shot at least five times, as he entered his office in the capital Tirana.
With all eyes firmly focused on yesterday’s disastrous GDP report (and ultimately dismissing it as ‘weather’ and one-off exogenous factors), we thought Bloomberg Brief’s Rich Yamarone’s analysis of a lesser-known (yet just as key) indicator of the state of US economic health was intriguing. As he notes, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Economic analysis, there has never been a time in history that year-over-year gross domestic income has been at its current pace (2.6 percent) without the U.S. economy ultimately falling into recession. That’s more than 50 years of history, which is about as good as one could ever hope for in an economic indicator.
Over at shadowstats.com, John Williams publishes alternative economic statistics that he believes are much more realistic than the government numbers. According to his figures, the U.S. economy has actually been continually contracting since 2005. That would mean that we have been in a recession for the last nine years.
Could it be possible that he is right and the bureaucrats in Washington D.C. are wrong?
Before you answer that question, read the rest of this article.
It just might change your thinking a bit.
Another number that many have accused of being highly manipulated is the inflation rate.
But we don’t have to sit around and wonder if that figure is being manipulated. The truth is that even those that work inside the Federal Reserve admit that it is being manipulated.
So it appears that Q2 GDP hope-fest is about to crash and burn the same way as the over exuberant Q1 GDP expectations…
First you heard that the economy was weak the first part of the year, when the government announced that GDP growth had been only 0.1 percent. Then you heard there was actually no growth at all, as the government revised its estimate to minus-1.0 percent. Yeah, it not only didn’t grow. It shrunk.
But today we learn how truly horrendous the economy has become under the policies of Barack Obama, as the government admitted that the actual economic output of the nation shrank by an astounding 2.9 percent in the first quarter of 2014.
How bad it that? It’s the worst in five years, and it’s way too bad for Obama to get away with blaming the weather, as he tried to do when the original sucktastic estimate came out. Everything is horrible, but especially exports:
So basically, everything is going wrong with this economy. By the way, Gross National Product (which includes receipts on income from the rest of the world) was even worse, declining 3.6 percent.
With over 260+ senior military officers fired by Obama for not embracing the future need to fire on American citizens, speaks clearly to this point. Ask yourself, what would be the one thing that this administration could do that would guarantee a violent response from many of the people? That one thing would be to start seizing private guns. Foreign troops will be operating under the UN flag in the pursuit of this agenda. Obama is in the midst of purging the military leadership who will not indiscriminately fire upon American citizens who would resist having their Second Amendment rights obliterated by this present administration.
Look at item number five in last year’s martial law preparation drills. “5, Nine-week training course for UN Peacekeepers in CONUS to learn Urban Warfare, English, and US weapons systems beginning late July for 386,000 troops to be completed by October 1st“.
Please note the designation and use of terms for “386,000 troops” and, “UN Peacekeepers in CONUS to learn urban warfare”. This does not leave much to the imagination now does it?
In Part Two of this series, I will present the evidence how far this plot has advanced and how we are all in a lot of trouble.
“Our dream is that when we switch on the [Large Hadron Collider] in 2015 at higher energy, we could be able to produce a particle that could explain dark matter.
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will double its power by running on the highest energy level ever reached by a particle accelerator, scientists announced Monday.
Nearly two years after the highly-publicized discovery of the elusive ‘God Particle,’ scientists have determined that the current Big Bang model cannot account for the existence of the universe.
As previously reported, scientists in Europe announced in 2012 that they had detected the Higgs boson, then confirmed their findings last year. The Higgs boson, also known as “the God particle,” was widely heralded as a key to understanding the origins of the universe.
However, in a major setback to the secular Big Bang theory, scientists with King’s College in London announced this month that Higgs boson physics cannot account for the universe’s existence. The scientists came to this conclusion after modeling the hypothetical conditions of the universe immediately after the Big Bang.
Hogan plans to share his findings today at the Royal Astronomical Society meeting in Portsmouth, England. Meanwhile, some suggest that these findings are evidence that the Big Bang theory is a flawed model which cannot account for the origin of the universe.
“Of course another possibility is a creative designer,” one online commenter succinctly noted.
Dr. Danny Faulkner, an astronomer with Answers in Genesis, says the Big Bang theory has repeatedly conflicted with observational evidence.
A meteorological tsunami or meteo-tsunami event was observed today in several Croatian cities along the Adriatic coast. In some places sea levels rose up to 2 meters.
According to Darko Dragojević, a member of independent Croatian meteorological organization Crometeo, who observed and reported the event in Vela Luka (Korčula), sea levels sharply rose for about 1.5 meters around 08:30 local time/CET (06:30 UTC). Although the water did not enter nearby houses, several boats were damaged.
“The damage would be much higher had this happen during the night. People realized what was happening and reacted quickly,” Dragojević said.
The event, which lasted for about 3 hours, was also observed in Stari Grad (Hvar) and Rijeka Dubrovačka where sea levels rose for 2 meters (6.5 feet). .
The cause: above-average volcanic eruptions around the world for the last nine months, including three in the last month – in Eastern Russia, Alaska and Indonesia. The release of sulfur into the atmosphere from volcanic eruptions reflects sunlight back out to space.
The meteorologist predicted cooler-than-normal summer temperatures “because of well-above-normal volcanic eruptions going back to the fall of 2013. We are not going to see many hot periods. Sure, there will be a few days here and there where temperatures reach 100 degrees in Oklahoma, but it’s not going to be very common.”
“What’s going to be more common is more moisture coming in off the Eastern seaboard of the U.S., and it will be pushing frontal boundaries from east to west, cooling down even parts of the Midwest in July and August,” he continued. “We think the first two weeks of September will be warmer. But then it will be getting quite a bit colder toward the end of September, and even into October.”
These cooler temperatures could damage the corn crop, Atkins explained.
Move over, IRS — now the Environmental Protection Agency is having its own problems with missing emails.
The environmental agency is having trouble locating emails belonging to a former agency employee and pulling information from his crashed hard drive, House members revealed Wednesday while questioning Administrator Gina McCarthy at a hearing on complaints of mismanagement.
What is it with bureaucrats and public employees … the hard drives crash?” asked Rep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-Mich.). He and others on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee questioned McCarthy about missing information related to the committee’s investigation into the potential environmental impact of a proposed gold and copper mine in the Bristol Bay watershed in Alaska.
“It sounds like we have another missing hard drive,” said Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.).
“It’s going to get a lot hotter in the United States over the next 100 years, and worse going forward,” notes a report cited by Bloomberg. The report, below, fearmongers the mutually assured destruction that will happen if something is not done right now about global warming (despite the implications being out to the year 2200) concluding… “The risks are much more perverse and cruel than we saw with the financial crisis, because they accumulate over time…a business-as-usual approach is actually radical risk-taking.” Can you guess who sponsored the report and used those M.A.D. words?.
And in case you were wondering who would create such scaremongery (rightly or wrongly) and Mutaully Assured Destructive words?
Today’s report was funded by
Hank Paulson, the former head of Goldman Sachs and Treasury Secretary under George W. Bush,
by former hedge fund manager Tom Steyer and
by Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York and founder of Bloomberg LP. Backers also include former U.S. Treasury Secretaries George Shultz and Robert Rubin.

ccording to local residents in the Tokyo metropolitan cities of Mitaka and Chofu, several dozen centimeters of 10-yen-coin-sized hailstones fell on the area in the space of about an hour starting from around 3 p.m. Locals also said that the mix of heavy rain and hail formed whirlpools of ice and water in some places.

The World Health Organization on Thursday called for “drastic action” to fight the deadliest Ebola outbreak on record, as it announced an 11-nation meeting to address the growing crisis.
As of Sunday, 635 cases of haemorrhagic fever (most confirmed to be Ebola), including 399 deaths, have been reported across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, making the outbreak the largest ever “in terms of the number of cases and deaths as well as geographical spread,” WHO said.
“Drastic action is needed,” the UN agency stressed in a statement, warning of the danger that the virus could jump to other countries.
In retrospect it will be very fitting that the crowning legacy of Obama’s disastrous reign, both domestically and certainly internationally, will be to force the world’s key ascendent superpowers (we certainly don’t envision broke, insolvent Europe among them) to drop the Petrodollar and end the reserve status of the US currency..
In other words just as the US may or may not be preparing to export crude – a step which would weaken the dollar’s reserve status as traditional US oil trading partners will need to find other import customers who pay in non-USD currencies – the world’s two other superpowers are preparing to respond. And once the bilateral trade in Rubles or Renminbi is established, the rest of the energy world will piggyback.
But wait, there’s more. Because only now does Gazprom appear to be unveiling all those “tangents” that were expected to hit the tape in May. Among Kruglov’s other revelations were that Gazprom is in talks on a Hong Kong listing and is weighing the issuance of Yuan bonds. Gazprom is also considering selling bonds in Singapore dollars, the CFO said at briefing in Moscow. Wait, you mean that by alienating and embargoing Russia from western (USD, EUR-denominated) funding markets, it has pushed the country to turn to its pivoting partner, China and thus further cementing the framework for the next Eurasian strategic alliance?
But wait, there’s still more, the meeting discussed cooperating on project and trade financing using local currencies. In other words, central bankers of China and Russia discussed how to replace the dollar with Rubles and Yuan.
As the probe into alleged fraud at Qingdao continues to escalate (with liquidity needs growing more and more evident as Chinese money-market rates surge), Bloomberg reports that China’s chief auditor discovered 94.4 billion yuan ($15.2 billion) of loans backed by falsified gold transactions, in “the first official confirmation of what many people have suspected for a long time – that gold is widely used in Chinese commodity financing deals.” As much as 1,000 tons of gold may have been used in lending and leasing deals in China and Goldman reports that up to $80 billion false-loans may involve gold. As one analyst noted, this was unlikely to have a significant impact on the underlying demand for gold in China and as we have pointed out before, any unwind of the Gold CFDs would lead to buying back of ‘paper’ gold hedges and implicitly a rise in prices.
How the plan worked is complex but as Bloomberg explains, to get around restrictions on banking with Iran, Sarraf looked to China…
Simply put – trust no one and nothing; gold is money; and the poeple are growing restless from this constant skimming, manipulation, and graft by the elites – see Ukraine (and more aware – no matter how many times you kill Twitter)
Getting secret information to specific people, like the location of the nearest nuclear power plant, in a way that doesn’t draw attention from outside is a classic spy problem. Another one is giving agents the ability to match names to faces in the real world, at blackjack tables and fancy soirees and other places spies frequent. The Defense Department is buying some new spy specs to give spooks in the field an intelligence edge over everybody else..
The glasses, called simply the X6, are from San Francisco-based Osterhout Design Group. They look like the lovechild of Google Glass and the Oculus Rift, providing more information to the wearer than the small window on Google’s much-maligned headset but not obstructing vision like the Oculus Rift. (Admittedly, for spy glasses, they lack a certain subtlety.)
At a recent innovation symposium at Defense Intelligence Agency headquarters in Washington, D.C., Bobby King, vice president of special projects for Osterhout, demonstrated how the headset provides situational intelligence.
In Iraq in 2014, by contrast, CIA officers have been largely hunkered down in their heavily fortified Baghdad compound since U.S. troops left the country in 2011, current and former officials say, allowing a once-rich network of intelligence sources to wither. Maguire and other current and former U.S. officials say the intelligence pullback is a big reason the U.S. was caught flat-footed by the recent offensive by a Sunni-backed al-Qaida-inspired group that has seized a large swath of Iraq.
