The soldiers said they had to sign a letter saying that they would not discuss this. I have no way of proving that apart from what they said. We cannot tell you how devastated we are that the government would do this. They lied to us.
‘It’s a big cover-up like Benghazi, just like everything Obama has done. We want the truth to come out.’
The President, Supreme Court, and both Houses of Congress have lost the trust of the American people and rightfully so. They are elected to enforce the laws, write the laws, and protect this nation within the bounds of the Constitution, yet they violate that trust an almost hourly basis with decisions, votes, and edicts far in excess of their granted power within the laws of the land. If anyone trusts these people, then one must ask themselves; if “I” do not trust them, how come few if any nations,be they ally or enemy trust their words, deeds, or actions as honest and trustworthy?
Of course as a result of the abuse of the people’s trust, the very regulators within the maze of bureaucracies created by the Federal Government now feel they can act with impunity, stealing people’s property, their rights as defined by the Bill of Rights within the Constitution, and ultimately their freedoms. Since their are no consequences, no enforcement of the Constitution nor the rule of law they are now telling people how to live their lives and those who do not fall in line with their beliefs are both persecuted then often prosecuted. The level of distrust extends from the head of the various cabinet level departments down to the janitors within those fiefdoms. Sadly, it the distrust now extends to the United States Post Office even where individuals put items in the mail unsure if they are being checked for value to be stolen or monitored for a National Security Agency or FBI premise to create an arrest. Yet most Americans just mutter their distrust and disgust and whine like an old Soviet citizen, doing nothing in the mean time to change our nation’s government.
Two weeks ago when news broke about the first confirmed instance of gold price manipulation (because despite all the “skeptics” claims to the contrary, namely that every other asset class may be routinely manipulated but not gold, never gold, it turned out that – yes – gold too was rigged) we said that this is merely the first of many comparable (as well as vastly different) instances of gold manipulation presented to the public. Today, via the FT, we get just a hint of what is coming down the pipeline with “Trading to influence gold price fix was ‘routine’.” We approve of the editorial oversight to pick the word “influence” over “manipulate” – it sound so much more… clinical..
Well that’s ironic: because it has always been done this way. Influenced. Or manipulated… or however you want to call it.
And while in the case of Libor the regulators could get away with it by stating only other professionals were impacted by years of wholesale market rigging because tracking the impact of daily gyrations in a rigged fix are virtually impossible for normal individuals to trace, and thus prove monetary impairment, with the gold market they may find some significant resistance using this approach.
So what approach will they use? Why, just like in the case of HFT: there may have been manipulation, but it only impacts hedge funds and other “sophisticated” investors they will say. Because when it comes to rigged markets, mom and pop have surely never had it better.
As I have often noted, the most dynamic and influential religion of the past hundred years has not been Christianity, let alone Judaism, the two religions that created the Western world. Nor has it been Islam.
It has been Leftism.
Leftism has influenced the literary, academic, media, and, therefore, the political elite far more than any other religion. It has taken over Western schools from elementary through graduate.
For most of that time, various incarnations of Marxism have been the dominant expressions — and motivators — of Leftism: specifically, income redistribution, material equality and socialism. They are still powerful aspects of the left, but with the downfall of most communist regimes, other left-wing expressions have generated even more passion: first feminism and then environmentalism.
Nothing comes close to environmentalism in generating left-wing enthusiasm. It is the religion of our time. For the left, the earth has supplanted patriotism. This was largely inevitable in Europe, given its contempt for nationalism since the end of World War I and even more so since World War II. But it is now true for the elites (almost all of whose members are on the left) in America as well.
Barack Obama has promised increase America’s defence spending by €1 billion (£600m) to protect Central and Eastern Europe from the new Russian threat following Russia’s seizure of Crimea and the Ukraine crisis.
The American president announced the “European Reassurance Initiative” on the first day of his visit to Poland, a country that has viewed with alarm Russia’s growing willingness to use force to assert its influence in neighbouring Ukraine.
In tough language rare for an Israeli diplomat in Washington, Israeli ambassador to the US Ron Dermer said Tuesday that Israel was “deeply disappointed” in the State Department’s decision to continue dealing with the Palestinian Authority now that it has Hamas support
In the first remark by an Israeli cabinet member on the growing friction between Israel and the US, Communications and Home Front Defense Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) said early Tuesday that, in backing the new Palestinian leadership, “American naivete reached new heights.”
“Cooperation with Hamas, designated in the US as a terror group that murders women and children, is unfathomable,” he added.
The United States said on Monday it plans to work with and fund the new Palestinian unity government formed after an agreement by the Fatah and Hamas factions, and Israel immediately voiced its disappointment with the U.S. decision.
The Temple Mount became Jewish again, at least for one day, on Tuesday. Temple organizations reported that about 400 Jews had ascended to the Mount in the morning hours, and that police allowed them in without undue delays.
Most of the gates to the Mount were closed, and Muslim worshippers, who often harass Jews on the Mount, are not being allowed in. This is happening because police and the Israel Security Agency (ISA, or Shin Bet) have received intelligence about “malicious intentions” and Islamist incitement calling on Arabs to riot and prevent the Jews from entering.
Only a few elderly Musims could be seen on the Mount, reported Temple activists.
The Temple Mount will be open to Jews on Shavuot in the morning hours of Wednesday, from 7:30 to 11:00 a.m., and again from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Shavuot is one of the three annual pilgrimage festivals on which the Israelites were commanded to come to Jerusalem to celebrate, in Temple times. The others two pilgrimage holidays are Pesach and Sukkot.
The United Nations on Tuesday welcomed the new Palestinian unity government and said it was ready to lend its full support in efforts to reunite the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, a spokesman said. The announcement followed statements by the US and the EU Monday that they would recognize the new leadership in Ramallah, much to Israel’s chagrin
The Fed’s chronic desire for slack-less growth has stair-stepped official rates to zero over the last few decades, has made (unconventional) accommodative measures seem necessary, and has resulted in a depleted arsenal. Hence, the FOMC is at a critical juncture; and FOMC members have only themselves to blame for being in such a position.
The Fed’s ability to reverse any new ebb in economic activity in the future is now severely limited, increasing the importance that current Fed initiatives succeed. This is likely the justification for QE-infinity. Today, the Fed has little choice but to stay overly accommodative even if the economy heals satisfactorily. With this in mind, most expect the economy to heal and are preparing for the inflation battle. However, such an outcome is not assured and big problems will arise should the economy sputter.
Whatever the interpretation, our chart fits nicely alongside Dudley’s and Fisher’s comments above. It says there’s much the Fed doesn’t understand, while at the same time showing that QE may have little purpose beyond providing a massive gift to wealthy traders and investors.
Getting back to our question of where a dollar of QE goes, the answer is “not far.” Outside of pushing up asset prices and encouraging an occasional luxury purchase, it doesn’t seem to escape the financial sector. Liquidity that might otherwise be offered by private institutions is instead provided by the Fed, and – as Phil Collins might put it – that’s all.
And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. 2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. 4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. 6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. 7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. 8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
9 If any man have an ear, let him hear. 10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
The core strategy of central states and banks to fix the Global Financial Meltdown of 2008 was to buy time: take extraordinary emergency monetary and regulatory measures to save the parasitic too big to fail banking sector and the rest of the crony-capitalist Wall Street parasites, and initiate an unprecedented transfer of wealth from savers and Main Street to the banks and Wall Street via zero-interest rates and credit funneled to the very players who caused the crisis.
The idea was that the system would “heal itself” if authorities simply “bought time” by saving the financial sector from its own predation. The second phase of “buying time so the financial system can heal itself” was to institute policies (ZIRP, etc.) that restored the financial sector’s obscene profits and socialized its losses by transferring them to the taxpayers.
The terrible irony in the official strategy of “buying time so the financial system can heal itself” is the policies prohibit healing and guarantee the next financial crisis will be greater in magnitude than the last one.
Wealthy members of Congress are living the high life at taxpayer expense, while most of the rest of the country continues to suffer through one of the worst economic periods in our lifetimes. According to an analysis conducted by the Center for Responsive Politics earlier this year, more than half of the members of Congress are millionaires.
This is the first time that this has ever happened in U.S. history. In addition, the same study found that a hundred members of Congress are actually worth at least five million dollars. We have a government of the wealthy, by the wealthy and for the wealthy, but as you will see below, that isn’t stopping members of Congress from wasting taxpayer money in some incredibly bizarre ways. Millions of dollars are being spent on “office expenses” and on the hair care needs of Senators, but very little is being done to stop this abuse. It is almost as if the American people have just accepted that this is how “big government” is supposed to operate.
No matter what your political affiliation is, it should bother you that we are overwhelmingly being represented by the very wealthy. We are supposed to be a government “of the people”, but instead Congress is rapidly becoming a millionaire’s club…
“In response to an increasingly aggressive homosexual agenda, Westminster Presbytery has proposed an overture that reaffirms the PCA’s position on homosexuality,” the article stated. “The overture also issues a call to church leaders to petition the government to place restrictions on those who advance the agenda.
The fact that these conversations are happening at all is seen by many gender identity activists as a major win — a sign that society’s long-time, and still current, adherence to what academics call a “gender binary” of either male or female, may be shape-shifting just a little, seeing the gender map more like a spectrum and less like a stark fork in the road. The fact that these conversations are happening is, at once, seen by others as concerning — an invitation to confusion for children still learning who they are, and a path away from the morals and structures upon which our society is built.
“It seems that the last few years in Canada … that whole human civil rights movement around gender and gender identity is happening in a big way and in a good way,” said André Grace, director of the University of Alberta’s Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services who chaired the Brock U session. The summer camp he founded in 2004 for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and trans [LGBT] youth has seen its trans enrollment go from a complete minority to a third of the campers.
A 22 meters wide asteroid named “2014 KH39” will make a very close approach with the Earth on June 3, 2014, reaching a minimum distance of less than 440 000 km (1.14 lunar distances, 438 460 miles). The closest approach is expected at 20:07 UTC today.
A much larger asteroid 2014 HQ124 dubbed “The Beast” will fly-by Earth on June 8, 2014, at the distance of approximately 3.3 LD. 2014 HQ124 has estimated diameter of more than 650 m (2 100 miles). It will fly-by close enough to glow at magnitude +13.7. Slooh will hold a special online event for this fly-by on June 8th starting at 18:30 UTC.
AIM researchers aren’t sure why these early NLCs seem to favor German longitudes, but they’re looking into it.
No, it’s not your imagination: The Los Angeles area is feeling more earthquakes this year.
After a relatively quiet period of seismic activity in the Los Angeles area, the last five months have been marked by five earthquakes larger than 4.0. That hasn’t occurred since 1994, the year of the destructive Northridge earthquake that produced 53 such temblors.
Over the next two decades, there were some years that passed without a single quake 4.0 or greater.
Earthquake experts said 2014 is clearly a year of increased seismic activity, but they said it’s hard to know whether the recent string of quakes suggests that a larger one is on the way.
Seismographs have picked up a swarm of earthquakes in the northwestern corner of Yellowstone National Park, including dozens early Tuesday.
The University of Utah Seismograph Station reported five small earthquakes including those with magnitudes of 3.4, 2.7 and 3.2 in a 20-minute period starting at 3:33 a.m. in an area 16 to 18 miles south of Gardiner.
Earthquake information specialist Paul Roberson says there were another 20 to 30 small quakes Tuesday morning that hadn’t yet been posted on the university’s website. He called it a fairly normal swarm for Yellowstone. He didn’t expect there to be any damage.
Seismographs recorded 31 quakes in the same area south of Gardiner on Saturday, while another 23 were reported last Wednesday and Thursday in an area between 18 and 19 miles east-southeast of West Yellowstone.
Saudi Arabia announced a jump of nearly 50 percent in deaths from a new virus on Tuesday after re-examining old data that also showed the number of infections since 2012 was a fifth higher than previously reported.
The increase in total confirmed cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) to 688 from 575, and the rise in deaths from the virus to 282 from 190, came in a review of data ordered by the Health Ministry last month.
The sharp increase in deaths now attributed to MERS, which causes coughing, fever and pneumonia in some, means the mortality rate from the virus in Saudi Arabia is now 41 percent, instead of the 33 percent previously thought.
Mercury tests conducted on vaccines at the Natural News Forensic Food Lab have revealed a shockingly high level of toxic mercury in an influenza vaccine (flu shot) made by GlaxoSmithKline (lot #9H2GX). Tests conducted via ICP-MS document mercury in the Flulaval vaccine at a shocking 51 parts per million, or over 25,000 times higher than the maximum contaminant level of inorganic mercury in drinking water set by the EPA.
A US-led operation has disrupted an international crime ring that infected hundreds of thousands of PCs across the globe with malicious software that stole more than $100 million from businesses and members of the public since 2011.
The Justice Department announced on Monday that anywhere between 500,000 and 1 million machines worldwide were affected by the virus’s known as Gameover Zeus which stole banking passwords and Crytolocker, which encrypted files and blackmailed the users for their release.
Among the victims of the cyber-attacks were Pittsburgh based Reinforced Plastics of Erie, which lost $373,000 in one money transfer and the Swansea, Massachusetts police department, which paid a $750 ransom after their computers were infected.
Proving once again that you can’t print your way to general economic prosperity, Abenomics took another shot to the chest last night as Japan’s base wages failed to rise month-over-month for the 24th month in a row (the longest streak in history). Even after all the promises and hope of the spring wage negotiations, Abe’s ‘plan’ to guilt employers into raising wages is not working; which is especialy problematic given the surge in inflation (as the ‘real’ wage slumped 3.1% in April) As Goldman warns, we caution against excessive expectations for sustained wage growth.
Considering that there has been no change in basic wages so far, employment growth is skewed toward part-timers, and also continued increase in overtime wages, we think companies remain cautious on expanding fixed cost, i.e. full-time employees and basic wages, and are responding to cyclical activity growth by taking on more part-timers or increasing overtime hours. We caution against excessive expectations for sustained wage growth.
If Mario Draghi was waiting for the latest Eurozone inflation data to cement his decision to unleash negative deposit rates, if not more, in the Eurozone, he got it earlier today when Eurostat reported that May inflation tumbled to 0.5% – matching the cycle lows and the lowest since March 2009 – down from April’s 0.7%, below the 0.6% expected, and less than half the ECB’s target. In other words, despite everything tried in Europe nothing is working, and the most important chart – that showing the collapse in lending to private companies – not due to lack of supply but due to no demand, continues to be the most relevant one. Sadly, it is the one Draghi has shown over the past three years he has virtually zero control over.
