And he spake to them a parable: Behold the fig tree, and all the trees:
30 when they now shoot forth, ye see it and know of your own selves that the summer is now nigh.
31 Even so ye also, when ye see these things coming to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh.
32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all things be accomplished.
33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
According to the book, “Double Down,” Obama said that “We all know Bibi Netanyahu is a pain in the a**” when discussing the conflict between the Israelis and the Arabs.
In that conversation, Sarkozy had said, “I cannot stand him. He is a liar.” Obama reportedly replied, “You’re fed up with him, but I have to deal with him every day!” The two, who thought they were having a private conversation, did not know that their microphones were open and that reporters outside could hear what they were saying.
And so another conspiracy theory, that Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was poisoned with Polonium, becomes non-conspiracy fact. From Reuters:
The Catholic Church has lashed out at the Israeli government, after its property in East Jerusalem was bulldozed to the ground. Meanwhile, thousands of Palestinian flats were marked for demolition just before US Secretary of State John Kerry’s visit.
Last week Israeli security forces arrived with bulldozers at a piece of property owned by the Catholic Church in east Jerusalem, close to the West Bank city of Bethlehem. They said it had been built without a permit and proceeded to destroy it.
This provoked a backlash from the head of the Catholic Church in Israel who said the demolition was carried out without any prior warning.
“This act is against the law, against justice and humanity, against any ideology upon which peace can be built and increases segregation and hate,” Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Faud Tawwal told AFP at the site of the demolition on Tuesday. The property had been standing before Israel annexed the area after the 1967 Six-Day War, he said.
This comes amid rumors of Israel mulling its biggest demolition plans in years, as over 15,000 Palestinian flats in east Jerusalem are under threat.
Shortly before US Secretary of State John Kerry landed in Jerusalem Tuesday night, Nov. 5, the Russian president’s office announced that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu would pay a short working visit to Moscow on Nov. 20 for talks with President Vladimir Putin.
DEBKAfile’s sources: The Israeli leader has determined to explore the route trodden by Saudi Arabia, Gulf Emirates and Egypt, who – feeling let down by the Obama administration’s decision to pull out of the Middle East, and concerend by its outreach to Iran – turned to Moscow in search of closer diplomatic and military ties.
The last eclipse of 2013 was an unusual one. Known as a hybrid eclipse, the moon blocked just part of the Sun – an annular eclipse – at sunrise in the western Atlantic Ocean, and then moved into total eclipse along a long, narrow path crossing into central Africa. For a little more than three hours, the shadow of the Moon traced a path about 13 600 kilometers (8 500 miles) long but no more than 58 kilometers (36 miles) wide.
The 2013 event was even more unusual because the eclipse shifted from partial to annular to total and then ended. Hybrid eclipses typically start as annular, become total, and then finish as annular. The last hybrid eclipse occurred on November 20, 1854, and the next one will not occur until October 17, 2172, according to Sky & Telescope magazine.
High frequency trading has changed the investing world, fundamentally. If you do not write algorithms, if you do not benefit from the super dark high frequency trading system, you are on the outs.
A breakthrough in genetics – described as “jaw-dropping” by one Nobel scientist – has created intense excitement among DNA experts around the world who believe the discovery will transform their ability to edit the genomes of all living organisms, including humans.
For the first time, scientists are able to engineer any part of the human genome with extreme precision using a revolutionary new technique called Crispr, which has been likened to editing the individual letters on any chosen page of an encyclopedia without creating spelling mistakes. The landmark development means it is now possible to make the most accurate and detailed alterations to any specific position on the DNA of the 23 pairs of human chromosomes without introducing unintended mutations or flaws, scientists said.
#1 In just a few days, the Twitter IPO is expected to raise close to 2 billion dollars even though Twitter actually lost 64.6 million dollarslast quarter and has a long history of not being profitable.
In short: a broken, inverted market, driven purely and entirely by hopes of an even bigger liquidity bubble, and even more greater fools to offload to.
And that, in a nutshell, is your “market.”
As was long predicted and foreshadowed (and analyzed herepreviously with the proposed FRN term sheet shown half a year ago), after nearly two years of foreplay with the idea of issuing inflation-friendly floating rate notes, moments ago as part of its refunding announcement, the Treasury announced the first floater issuance in history would take place on January 29, 2014, will have a 2 year tenor, and will amount to between $10 and $15 billion.
From the press release:
Forcing young workers to pay into a Ponzi Scheme is generational injustice on a vast scale.
Why should young workers pay into a retirement system that will give them nothing, a system that will dissolve in insolvency long before they’re old enough to retire? This is a question that Max Keiser posed in our conversation on Peak Retirement, and I think it deserves an answer.
The soon-to-be 70 million beneficiaries of Social Security would need roughly 210 million full-time workers earning decent money to sustainably fund their benefits. The U.S. economy is short about 100 million full-time jobs, and given the end of workrealities I have often covered here (just type end of work into the custom search box on the main blog page), the number of full-time jobs with decent pay may well decline sharply, even in “good times,” i.e. periods of expansion.
We can expect widespread destruction of paid work as technology creatively destroys one sector after another.
Why should young workers pay into a retirement system that cannot possibly offer them any benefit? The conventional answer is a lie: “Social Security is essentially eternal and will be here forever.”
The other conventional answer is pure self-serving, self-justification by retirees: “We wuz promised.” Well guess what, Boomers (I am 59 and a Boomer), things change in pay as you go systems. When the number of full-time workers falls to 2-to-1 or less and the number of retirees drawing benefits skyrockets, the system is no longer sustainable, regardless of what was promised by feckless politicos and their toadies.
Since President Barack Obama took office in 2009, the amount of outstanding federal student loan debt owed to the government has skyrocketed, increasing by 463 percent. The balance owed currently stands at $674,580,000,000.00 compared to $119,803,000,000.00, where it stood in January 2009, according to the Financial Management Service’s latest monthly treasury statement.
Yep, so after a 475% rise in the Caracas Stock Index YTD, he sees ‘speculation’ and will announce some ‘economic fixes’… this should be good…
Another divergence was oil (which surged notably) and copper (which was pummeled) as gold and silver limped higher (on weaker USD ahead of tomorrow’s rumored ‘no cut’ ECB meeting). The last notable divergence was in the Treasury complex where the long-bond continues to push higher in yield while ‘forward-guidance’ belief is dragging the front-end lower in yield (5s30s now 10bps steeper on the week).
If the rumor mill is at least partially correct, and it often is, then, it is safe to assume that at least part of the civil war in Syria has to do with oil, or more precisely, with pipeline routes, some that will be laid, others that will never see the day. If Iraq was attractive to the USA because of its oil and gas reserves, Syria is attractive due to the location where the projected oil pipelines were to transit. And ergo the root of the crisis.
Earlier in the year we unveiled the most ‘epic’ Chinese over-capacity bubble chart. Of course, China bulls shrugged at such inconvenience as demand and supply imbalance (even as Michael Pettis destroyed many of their hopes and dreams as all that debt – to over-build and over-supply – has to be repaid). Fast forward to today, on the eve of the nation’s Third Plenum, and Chinese leaders are facing the music. As AP reports, leaders have ordered local officials to stop expanding industries such as steel and cement in which supply outstrips demand. The call, via video conference, saw planning officials warn local leaders to stop ignoring orders to reduce overcapacity in industries including steel, cement, aluminum and glass, “Those who still violate discipline will be heavily punished.” One chief engineer exclaimed, “the scale of overcapacity is unprecedented.”
Applications for mortgages for the purchase of a home plunged at nearly the fastest pace in 9 months this week, dropping to their lowest since the Christmas week 2012 – and lowest since February 2012. Now down over 20% from their May highs, the plunge is a problem – since as BofA’s CEO noted earlier:
- *MOYNIHAN SAYS HOME PURCHASES, NOT REFI, BOOST THE ECONOMY
So just another indicator that all is not well in the ‘economy’.
Representing a $1.2 billion investment by the U.S. federal government, the FBI’s massive Next Generation Identification (NGI) program is a ten-year lifecycle project that hinges on biometric identification technologies and has seen privacy advocates butt heads with law enforcement since its inception.
Most Americans don’t realize that we already have a shortage of doctors in this country. According to CBS News, right now there is “a shortage of 20,000 doctors nationwide”.
But that isn’t too bad. We could get by with that.
Unfortunately, at the moment close to half of all doctors in the United States are over the age of 50. And thanks to Obamacare and other changes in the health care industry, many of them are fed up and would like to retire.
And this comes at a time when our population is rapidly aging and our nation will need more doctors than ever.
According to CBS News, it is now being projected that we will need an additional52,000 primary care physicians by the year 2025.
Please note that the statistic I just mentioned is just for primary care physicians. Overall, the American Association of Medical Colleges has projected that we will experience a shortage of more than 150,000 doctors over the next 15 years.
November 5 (RIA Novosti) – Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed on Tuesday that the government use smart cameras to identify immigrants.
He said such technology would be able to help the Federal Migration Service keep track of the many migrant workers from former Soviet states who can enter the country without a visa.
The president made the proposal after meeting with the head of a startup company that is using smart cameras to identify people’s faces and vehicles for secure access to bank machines and parking areas.
Public discontent over rising numbers of foreign workers has heated up in recent months, and in Moscow thousands of migrants have been detained in police raids.
In Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece “2001 Space Odyssey,” there was the “stargate scene” where an astronaut saw several diamond shaped UFOs and in the video below, footage shows that those UFOs are real, here now and have been spotted and captured on film regularly for the past few years.
November 06, 2013 – SPACE – The image above shows the central parts of the nearby active galaxy NGC 1433. The dim blue background image, showing the central dust lanes of this galaxy, comes from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. The colored structures near the center are from recent ALMA observations that have revealed a spiral shape, as well as an unexpected outflow, for the first time.
